The Czech M60 Parka is one of the most distinctive camouflage garments of the Cold War. Introduced by Czechoslovakia in the early 1960s, it features the iconic M60 “Raindrop” camouflage pattern, known locally as Jehličí (“Pine Needle”). Designed to break up the wearer’s silhouette in woodland and mixed terrain environments, the pattern remained in military service for decades and has become a favorite among collectors.
What makes some examples especially interesting is their use of specialized dyes that can reveal a secondary camouflage pattern under night vision devices. Known as Obláky (“Clouds”), this hidden pattern was an early attempt at reducing visibility to image intensification technology and represents a fascinating chapter in Cold War camouflage development.
Constructed from durable canvas fabric with a waterproof treatment, the M60 was built to withstand harsh field conditions. One of its most unique features is the removable hood, which can also be converted into a helmet cover, allowing soldiers to adapt to changing weather and mission requirements.
