USGI M40 / M42 Gas Mask Canteen

Genuine U.S. military–issued gas mask canteen designed for use with the M40 and M42 protective mask systems. This specialized canteen allowed soldiers to drink water while wearing their gas mask, maintaining hydration in chemical, biological, or riot control environments.

Unlike a standard GI canteen, the M40/M42 canteen features a valved drinking cap that interfaces directly with the drinking tube on compatible masks. When connected, the valve opens only during drinking, helping prevent outside contamination from entering the water supply.

Issued from the late Cold War through the early GWOT period, these canteens were standard equipment for units operating in NBC-threat environments, training exercises, and deployments where full protective posture was required.

Condition
